My Mind My Steed

They told my words to quiet down
It didn’t matter to them they said
So my words became lyrics and poetry
And they sang a song in my head

When ounces of fear put me in a corner
Curled like a fetus tucked away from sight
My dreams came to my rescue
With dazzling colors and brilliant light

When I was left tired and motionless
From just simply surviving the day
My mind played my favorite tunes
And my soul danced my heart away

A long ways I have come from then and now
My mind gallantly saving me each day
Each song Each dream Each dance
Kept me strong, safe and at bay
