Irresistible Coffee

Good Morning! 🙂

I’ve found a super healthy way to drink coffee, and honestly couldn’t go on another day without sharing!! You are going to be amazed!!

This recipe calls for 4 ingredients, 3 of which are ripe with benefits for your precious body.IMG_3019

Ingredient #1

A cuppa Coffee – oh yea, grab that intoxicating sucker because this recipe is nothing if not for coffee!

Ingredient #2

A tablespoon of Coconut oil – What?! Coconut oil? In coffee? Are you crazy?! Yes, yes I am haha. But this is the kind of crazy you wanna be, because coconut oil is SO good for you! Why not add it to your coffee? Life is short, it’s worth a try!

Coconut oil is rich in Medium Chain Triglycerides (MCTs). These MCTs are easily digested and quickly metabolized in the liver. This is great because fatty acids are being stored as fuel instead of fat, providing you fast and lasting energy that is more quickly absorbed by the body! This is great news! Coconut oil will rev up your metabolism, which will help you lose weight, store less fat, increase your energy levels and helps you consume less food since it makes you feel full! It also aids in better digestion, happy gut and balanced hormones, which will put you in a better mood overall. The benefits are infinite! It’s worth the time and research to see why and how you should incorporate more coconut oil into your life!

Ingredient #3

A tablespoon or two of Honey – Sweet sweet honey. It’s best to use pure raw organic honey, but I really think any old ordinary honey will do (hopefully it is void of pesticides).

Honey is anti-bacterial, anti-fungal, and antimicrobial – which basically means honey has a long shelf life and is super healing and good for your body! It is also packed with antioxidants, vitamins and probiotics! Yes! Give me more! Okay, it’s also good for your skin! As they say, honey is liquid gold. Fancyyyy!

Ingredient #4

A sprinkle of Cinnamon – Underrated and flavorful magic powder!

Guys, there are so many medicinal benefits to cinnamon and I’m truly surprised that it hasn’t become social media famous yet. There are just SO many benefits!! In summary, it’s good for your heart, it’s good for your brain, it’s good for digestion, and it’s good for you, your mom, and basically everyone else on earth. So yes, just a sprinkle is all you’ll need 🙂

Put all the ingredients in the blender and blend for about 15 – 30 seconds. This will break up the coconut oil and give you a more creamy looking coffee.

* You could also just mix these ingredients in a cup without blending but the oil will be floating on top. It’s still just as tasty though! IMG_30282

Close up: IMG_30312I got this Solar Light Jar from Michael’s for $1.99!! How gorgeous is this?

I’m currently reading “The Martian” by Andy Weir, I love it so far! Have any of you watched the movie? Did you like it?:IMG_30342

Hope you try out this incredible cup of coffee! And if you do, let me know what you think!

Have a beautiful day!

An Oatload of Fun!

Good morning! Happy Sunday!

It’s a perfect day for a healthy brekkie don’t you think?! 😉

I have for you a really a fun way to eat your morning oats! I wish I could take credit for this, but my lovely mommy showed me this recipe and I’ve been hooked ever since!

I present to you the Oatmeal Roti! This is super yummy you guys, and depending on how you dress it up, it’s pretty dang healthy too! It takes less than 10 minutes to make! What?! Yea, it’s that easy to make and you won’t regret it one bit! 😀

Serves one (2 rotis)

  1. A cup of oatmeal  (I used Quaker Old Fashioned Oats)
  2. One tbspn of flaxseed (Optional – I used Carrington Farm’s Organic Milled Flaxseeds)
  3. One tspn of baking powder
  4. A tspn of olive oil (Or unsalted butter)

  1. Take your oatmeal and run it through a grinder to make oat flour and put it in a bowl.
  2. Then mix in the flaxseed and baking powder to your oat flour.
  3. Add water to this mix until you get a batter that is not too runny or too thick. (You can also add milk or kefir if you chose! Feel free to experiment!)

    4. Warm up a griddle to medium heat and lightly grease it with olive oil (or unsalted butter).
    5. Split your batter in half and use a spoon to scoop it into the griddle forming a nice little round roti (note: these roti’s are the size of a silver dollar pancake) (note 2: it’s totally okay if you don’t get a nice circle…ovals and abstract shapes taste just as good!)
    6. Cook it on each side for roughly 45 seconds (might take more or less depending on your preference and your griddle – mine usually turn out soft and chewy and slightly crispy on the outside…it’s sooo yummm!)13900303_634410063383991_1721081695364952012_n

Dressing this baby up is the fun part! Here are a few of my favorites!

Oatmeal Roti with Spicy coconut sambal (let me know if you would like the recipe!):

Oatmeal Roti topped with cream cheese fruit dip and blueberries:

Oatmeal Roti topped with peanut butter (or almond butter) and apple slices:

I hope you try this out and push your oatmeal boundaries! If you do, please share a pic or leave a comment, I’d love to hear from you!

Have a fabulous day lovelies!

No Stress No Stress

Hey there, I’m so happy you stopped by! 🙂

Many days I’ve wandered the earth, seeing all these beautiful faces passing me by, and it amazes me to think about how we probably only give our attention to approximately 0.0000000000001% of these people? Damn. That’s why, I’m one of those people who walks around wearing this incredibly pseudo looking (but totally genuine) smile, justttt in case someone could use it. When friends walk with me, they’re like, “you know that dude?” and I’m like, “nope, but he seem pretty cool.” and that dude was probs like “damn, I look good today” or maybe “man, that was awesome, let me smile at that really chill girl about to pass me by” – and my imagination likes to hope that I just started an awesome never ending smile train.#Yas

But I’m going to be honest, sometimes…I get stressed. Stress is detrimental to your very being, and I highly recommend that you take all precautions to get rid of that damn joy-kill as soon as possible. You were born to be a stress free human being- existing, creating, breathing, living, loving, etc and stress really has no part in that #tbh. I do three things when I feel stressed:

  1. WALK – Walking gets your blood pumping, the oxygen flowing into your body, it gives you space to think or empty, and it is an instant mood changer. If you ever feel an overwhelming amount of stress – go on a walk, it’s practically magic.
  2. SLEEP – Ain’t no cure like 8 hours of sleep. I find that it brings me to level of homeostasis that I’m not able to achieve while awake. Oddly, when I fall asleep mulling over something stressful – I usually find a solution or a voice of reason helping me find a fresh perspective on said stress inducing issue. Sounds crazy, but this has happened to me quite a few times. Lastly, at the very least, a refreshed mind can handle anything better than a stressed one – so sleep it out!
  3. HAVE FUN – Sometimes when I’m stressin real hard, and I feel a bit claustrophobic in my stress bubble – I go out on search for something fun. Fantastic finds have resulted from my mini escapes. I’ve stumbled on a free jazz show once, I’ve visited fascinating museums, met really cool people, walked to random places in NYC finding hidden waterfalls and beautiful botanical sights, and sometimes I splurge and buy a new book, or a stunning new dress that I’d never buy on a sensible day, or as I did on Friday – get pampered at a really nice spa. It’s therapeutic – fun could be lying down (or rolling) in grass, painting while intoxicated, dancing with strangers, skydiving, watching a Broadway show…the fun filled options are endless!! You could even pop that stress bubble whilst blowing bubbles!! It’s Genius!!  And Fun!!

You catch my drift? Life is so short but on the same token life is SO BIG. Kill stress and make bliss.

On that note – if you want to distress at a spa like I did (and you’re in NYC) then you should totally give Nuansa Spa your time and your dime. It’s a hidden gem. You’ll find yourself being transposed from the city hustle and into a complete relaxing, tranquil, sublime arena of pure bliss. I mean – I felt like I went on a mini vacation. I really appreciated their attention to detail, which you will not fail to see from the second you step foot into this spa. They were gentle, kind, and they gave me so much space to relax and unwind. I enjoyed everything from the welcome, to the ambiance, the impeccably clean bathrooms, the incredible snacks and satiating green tea, and the gentle calming presence of everyone who works there. Ladies (and gents), you’ll be happy to find that the shower is HUGE and they even have make up that you can use to pretty yourself up afterwards! *tears*  It was really wonderful and you’ll definitely “find your urban escape” here. Thank you for this experience Nuansa Spa! Here are some pictures from Friday 🙂

Hope everyone had a lovely weekend, and wishing you a beautiful week ahead!

Oh My Heart

Dearest dwellers of the vast internets,

Before you begin reading this post, please take a moment to sit there with  your hand over your heart. Let the world be still for a moment and I want you to feel and hear that beautiful heart of yours. Is it slow and steady? Or is it quick? Is it irregular – quick slow quick slow? However it goes, however it beats – please take a moment to love that sweet little pumper of yours. Love your heart for all the hard work it it puts in every single day of your life.

In the light of a sequence of deaths, I’ve become immensely aware of the briefness of life. I used to boast about how I’d live to be 100, but to be honest, I was kind of hoping that everyone else would live to be 100 too – so you could only imagine my surprise when the very people who were a part of my life just a moment ago were all of a sudden…not. Wow – I’ll never see that smile or hear that laugh again? Wow.

I’m a big advocate of “let that shit go” “live your life” “smile at every passing stranger because the whole world is your friend and everyone needs a smile” mantras – some of my co-workers call me “hippy dippy” “tree hugger” etc. – but I am very very passionate about making people fully aware that they are LIVING and it doesn’t count unless your ALIVE while you’re ALIVE. No this does not mean you have to be rainbows and sunshine all of the time – but please don’t sit back in complacency and mediocrity because it’s easier and safer – are you really going to let all that hard, arduous blood pumping work your heart is doing go to waste?! It’s literally working day and night to keep you alive!!

With that said I’m going to segue into another one of my passions – charity. It is always on my mind – sometimes I even imagine myself wearing a large fanny pack stuffed to the brim with dolla bills and I’m just walking around giving my money away to everyone and fantasizing about what they’d probably do with it. It’s fabulous. Today’s charity of choice is the American Heart Association. Here is why…

Last weekend I went to the funeral of a 32 year old man. 32. years. old. He had no idea! I mean, he ate well, he exercised, he was healthy…so what the eff! You won’t believe it, but the docs said it was genetic. Yeap – if heart disease runs in your family – then you better run yourself to the doctor asap and get that pretty little heart checked out! Did you know, my dad went in for a regular check up and was immediately admitted to the hospital because he had 75% blockage in his heart and ended up having an open heart surgery! He only went in for a check up. His next heart attack would’ve be his second one…and last one. He was lucky, but only because he took precautions and went in for his regular check up. Lastly, my sweet sister has heart murmurs – her heart beats so hard sometimes that I could hear it just from sitting next to her. Its so worrying and sometimes the briefness of life, numbs me – but for goodness sake, that heartbeat is irregular but that it is fighting for its life, pumping away like it’s nobody’s business. Please, follow your heart.

I am really invested in sending out this message to bring awareness to the importance of being on top of your heart game. Please go in for your regular check ups. Drink water. Sleep well. Laugh lots. Worry less. Eat food that is nourishing and healthy and fuels you with energy. Walk, run, dance and just keep moving. Speaking of which – I will be running a 3 miler (The Wall Street Run) with my friends and co-workers on May 19, 2016 at 6pm. I might not know you yet, but I would LOVE for you to join us – there are popsicles and happy hours at the end of this run! You can click here to Join My Team! Yay!! If you aren’t able to make it for any reason, then I would be so grateful for your contribution to the cause and for all your efforts to spread the message! You can also donate to my personal page and help me reach my fundraising goal of $2,000 if you please: Follow This Link and I don’t think I could thank you enough! ❤

In summary, today’s charity and cause of choice is CRITICAL. Be aware of your body and your heart, please take all the steps to keep your little engine running smoothly. Wishing you all a long and healthy life – so we can all perish together as happy old wrinkly babes who LIVED an entire century! #GOALS

One love from my heart to yours.

Good night!
